"Fr�y Aagre is one of very few female saxophonists and composers in Norway. Despite her young age she has developed a highly individual style, on tenor & soprano, and her compositions are both imaginative and original. Fr�y Aagre and her band Offbeat received excellent reviews for this debut album �Katalyze�, with critics comparing her with saxophone legends such as Jan Garbarek, Wayne Shorter and also David Liebman, with whom she studied in New York. She also studied in London for a time. The band plays contemporary melodic jazz, all composed & arranged by Fr�y - characterized by intriguing melodies and interplay, unexpected rhythmic ideas and rich harmonic textures. The element of surprise is always there in Aagres� music. Her band Offbeat consists of three very talented musicians on the Norwegian jazz scene: Andreas Ulvo (piano), Audun Ellingsen (bass) and Freddy Wike (drums)."
